Optimising the flow through a concertinaed filtration membrane

Membrane filtration is a vital industrial process, with applications including air purification and blood filtration. In this paper, we study the optimal design for concertinaed membrane composed of angled porous membranes dead-ends. We examine how filter performance depends on angle, position, thickness, permeance membrane, through combination numerical asymptotic approaches, latter in limit slightly membrane. find that, fixed angle physical properties, there can exist multiple positions that maximise flux an applied pressure difference. More generally, show while maximal achievable thickness permeance, configuration always one two setups: centred diagonal across full domain; or corner domain.
